How PTE Speaking is Scored

The PTE test is fully computerised as it is marked by a computer which is trained on algorithms. The test is checked on a scale of 10 to 90, where 10 is the lowest and 90 is the highest score.

There are two types of skills tested in PTE including Communication skills and Enabling skills. The communication skills include the four modules of PTE exam including Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening. Enabling skills include grammar, spelling, vocabulary, written discourse, pronunciation, and oral fluency. The minimum and maximum scores for all these parameters are 10 and 90.

The speaking of PTE is assessed on Content, Pronunciation & Fluency. All the questions in the speaking module are tested on these three parameters. Oral fluency is the most important parameter to score high in this module.

Firstly, the fluency score is calculated based on speaking speed, short and long pauses, hesitations, speech rhythm and so on. Secondly, pronunciation is marked on your ability to speak the words as if a native speaker of the English language will speak. Lastly, content is scored based on the question type given in the speaking module.
